FAQ's Electrolysis and Advanced Electrolysis – Blemish Removal
What is the difference between Electrolysis and Advanced Electrolysis?
Electrolysis refers to permanent hair removal and Advanced Electrolysis is the treatment and removal of Skin Blemishes. This service requires prior discussion and consultation. Sometimes blemishes may require further treatment, especially Warts and Verrucae, this will be discussed at the time of consultation.
Does it hurt?
Most clients find Advanced Electrolysis tolerable however, a little discomfort will be experienced. Some clients opt for numbing cream before the treatment which can take the edge off. The method used ensures minimal discomfort and following the aftercare advice means that there will be minimal downtime.
Why choose Advanced Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is an extremely precise, powerful and hygienic service as opposed to other methods like cryotherapy or home methods. Diathermy, the method of heat used, is also used in hospital operating theatres to cauterize where needed. This means that any unwanted tissue and blemishes will dry up, scab and fall away leaving minimal skin trauma.
How many sessions will I need?
Every client is different and many factors will determine the answer to this question. If somebody has shorter timed sessions and lots of hair, the end result will take far longer to achieve than having longer sessions and clearing a lot more hair in one go. Hair grows in cycles and there is an “optimum” growth phase for hairs to be treated in. Above the skin the hairs all look the same, but underneath we just don’t know what’s going on. This is why regular treatments are recommended so that you’re in with a chance of getting a higher percentage of the “optimum” hairs. Some treatments may not be so worth while because we could be treating already shedding hair. The positive news is that each hair is still fed by a bloody supply (no matter which phase) although in varying degrees of how it absorbs the blood. By using electrolysis we are still able to start cauterizing that vessel with every treatment even if the hair isn’t optimum. No visit is a complete waste of time. (That was sciencey! Wow, take a breather!)

Please understand that it isn’t a quick fix and be prepared to be coming for treatments for 12 months and maybe more. I do tell people it’s a lifelong treatment but that isn’t because the hair remains prolific. After 6 – 12 months I would expect you to have a HUGE difference in the amount and texture of hair. It will take longer than this to finalise the treatment but once complete, you will be thrilled with the result.

Over time you will grow new hairs which comes to us all with age and hormonal changes, and then you can come back as and when you feel the need to treat the ones that pop through which will be maintained by shaving as before. They also won’t be in the same volume as previously because we will have treated them now. You may only want to come back once every so often to sort this.

What is a normal skin reaction after treatment?
You can expect to see redness and swelling post procedure. Scabs will form around 48 hours after the treatment and last around 10 days. Once the scab has fallen away, there will be new pink skin in its place which will fade over time.
